Diversified Clinical Services to consolidate with competitor

Jacksonville Business Journal

Diversified Clinical Services and Wound Care Centers Inc. will operate under the common ownership of WCS Clinics Inc., consolidating the two largest wound care companies in the U.S.

Both companies contract with hospitals to manage wound care programs, providing staff, data systems and research to treat the growing number of patients with problem wounds.

Jacksonville-based Diversified Clinical Services is the result of a merger earlier this year between Jacksonville-based Diversified Therapy and Praxis Clinical Services. Diversified has contracts with more than 150 hospitals in 36 states. After the consolidation with Wound Care Centers, the two companies will have more than 260 hospital contracts covering 40 states and more than 700 employees.

The management teams of both companies will remain in place after the consolidation is completed.

The acquisition is being funded by a trio of private equity firms.

Diversified Clinical Services CEO Jim Henry said the merger will give the company a chance to contribute to advancements in the field, including research and knowledge gained from an expanded database of wound care management.

A variety of factors have contributed to the increase in the number of patients with chronic wounds, including an aging population and increasing numbers of diabetics and radiation therapy patients.
