LONDON (AFX) - US aircraft giant Boeing Co has begun talks with airlines about a revamped version of its short-haul workhorse, the Boeing 737, according to a report.

The Seattle-based group has drawn up two early prototypes including a wider, twin-aisle jet and a shorter, single-aisle version, dubbed Fat Boy and Little Boy, the Times reported.

The new jet is likely to enter service in the middle of the next decade and will have a carbon fibre fuselage to make it more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly, the newspaper said.
