School Specialty hires new president

School Specialty Inc. has hired Thomas Slagle as president and chief operating officer, effective Thursday.
Slagle, 45, assumes the title of president from David Vander Zanden, who remains chief executive officer of the Greenville provider of education products to the pre-K through 12 market.
Slagle now takes full responsibility for the day-to-day operations of School Specialty (NASDAQ: SCHS).
Most recently, he served as group president, supply chain services-medical for Cardinal Health Inc. In this role, Slagle held profit and loss responsibility for five business segments with more than $7 billion of revenue for the Dublin, Ohio-based health care products company.
