YouTube is definitely not your father's method of sharing video footage. The company, which has amassed a collection of more than 100 million video clips, has become the clear leader in online video sharing. YouTube earns revenue by selling advertising and has partnership deals with content providers such as CBS, Warner Music Group, and the NBA. The company was founded in 2005 by Steve Chen (CTO) and Chad Hurley (CEO), who met when they were employees at PayPal. Chen Hurley conceived of the idea after being frustrated by the difficulties of sharing video files. YouTube initially received funding from investment firm Sequoia Capital; in 2006 the company was purchased by Google for some $1.6 billion.
