Telecom Italia (NYSE: TI) expects to invest 2.8bn reais (US$1.16bn) in its Brazilian operation next year, company CEO Franco Bernabe said in a conference with investors.

Telecom Italia's wireline unit is Italy's #1 telephone operator with about 20 million fixed access lines. Broadband connections total more than 7 million and its domestic wireless business also leads with about 36 million subscribers. While Telecom Italia does most of its business domestically, Europe and Latin America are key international markets. Its wireline holdings provide broadband network services in France, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as wholesale network access in Europe and South America. Its TIM Brasil subsidiary is a leader in the Brazilian wireless market. Telecom Italia also provides office peripherals such as ink-jet printer heads, largely for the banking industry, through Olivetti.
