Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt said Google was committed to wireless through application and platform development, but he remained mum on rumors that the search engine giant was looking into offering its own branded handsets that run on its own operating system. - FCC to wireless: Improve emergency-call standards
The FCC ruled Thursday that the telecom industry must improve the standards used for testing the location accuracy of wireless handsets. The wireless industry opposes a proposed community-level testing mandate, saying it may not be "technically feasible." The ruling also tentatively applies to VoIP carriers when the service is used in multiple locations. The Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones Newswires (subscription required)
