  • Consumer trust essential for service providers
Dan Yost, executive vice president of Qwest, told attendees of the IEC Conference held in conjunction with NXTcomm that trust is key as service providers work to maintain customers. More consumers seek direct access to content, and providers will stay relevant only if they deliver simple products that embrace freedom and mobility while engendering trust. Telephony Online (6/19)

  • AT&T, Cisco CEOs, FCC chairman kick off NXTComm opening day keynote
Focusing on the promise and potential of the broadband future, industry visionaries gave a packed room of NXTcomm attendees a clear glimpse of the new world of communications and entertainment. Making his first major industry address, AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson outlined his vision for the company and gave the audience a sneak peak at the company's most anticipated new product -- the iPhone. Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers demonstrated Cisco's new technologies and emphasized the changing nature of today's telecom industry. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin addressed the crowd via satellite, and he talked about what the FCC and other policymakers can do to continue to spur broadband deployment across the nation. The final presentation in the session was a roundtable discussion with the top technology officers from four of the world's leading integrated-communications and entertainment-service providers: AT&T, Verizon, British Telecom and Qwest.

Resectionalizing the DA, Central Office Home Distribution Area
Fiber may not be the optimal approach in all upgrade business models. The cost of trenching or boring fiber routes makes using existing copper plants a cost effective solution.
