Should poor trans woman have to pay fee for name change?


The Illinois Supreme Court heard arguments last week on whether Daunn Turner, a transgender woman with a low income, should have to pay a $450 fee to change her name. Turner allegedly was told by a lower-court judge that he would not agree to "spending the county's money on something like this." Will County Chief Judge Stephen White said he did not remember the conversation.  Chicago Tribune (01/18)
