Researchers: Staph study not meant to become political football
Researchers behind a study linking the spread of a drug-resistant staph infection to gay men on Friday apologized for the manner in which the data were released, after complaints by gay activists over the use of the information by conservative groups to vilify gay people. "I think we were looking at this from a scientific point of view and not projecting any political impact," said Dr. Henry Chambers, one of the report's authors and a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
