Grainger expanding in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Business Times
W.W. Grainger Inc., a building maintenance supplier, is increasing its presence in Pittsburgh as part of an $80 million national expansion, the company said Wednesday.
The size of Grainger's three existing area showrooms, in the Strip District, O'Hara and Robinson, will each be more than doubled, and the Lake Forest, Ill.-based company opened two new showrooms, in Greensburg and Cranberry, earlier this year.
Instead of the past practice of customers waiting for an employee to bring the product from the store shelves, Grainger's larger showrooms will let customers shop and pick out their own items. The company plans to add about 15 jobs locally, bringing the total number of employees to 65.
Grainger also announced a $10,000 contribution to the Community College of Allegheny County to support wireless computer technology equipment for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning program and scholarships.
