  Business Leadership
  • Think about work-life integration instead of artificial boundaries
Three limitations make it improbable to find a work-life balance, so consider work-life integration instead by removing those limitations. If you think about your life differently and focus on the people and priorities that matter to you, you may find you can move seamlessly from work to life and back. Bigg Success (5/31)
  • Leverage down to achieve more
Some C-level executives have trouble delegating some of their tasks -- a problem that can be minimized if you use a simple chart to separate the urgent from the mundane and remember that your hourly time is worth more than that of your employees. And, if you've developed a competent staff, delegate down as far as you can go without compromising quality. Commercial Property News (5/30)
  • HR pros need strategic thinking skills
To be a leader means one must think strategically, but many leadership development programs focus more on day-to-day tactical skills. To hone your strategic thinking skills and help others do so, look at issues from many perspectives, focus on solutions instead of problems, influence listeners and think how most effectively to get buy-in, management consultants say. Society for Human Resource Management (5/2008)
  • Let employee work schedules go with the flow
Employers such as Best Buy have found a results-oriented work environment can help retain workers and increase productivity. In a results-oriented work environment, meetings are not mandatory, employees decide when they will work and they are judged on whether they get the job done. The book "Why Work Sucks and How To Fix It" discusses the concept. Reuters (5/29)
  Quick Poll

Very -- by shifting more of the control to employees, their level of involvement increases as well.
Depends -- good employees are productive regardless of their schedules.
Not very -- traditional schedules exist for one reason: They work.
