Will New York become next state to change its marriage law?
Although New York's fiscal crisis is expected to take precedent, the election of a Democratic majority in the state Senate eventually could lead to the passage of equal marriage rights, which had been blocked by the Republican leadership. "The only chance we had for meaningful debate or consideration of these issues in the state Senate was with a new Senate leadership," said Alan Van Capelle, executive director of Empire State Pride Agenda, who said bipartisan support would be needed to pass such a law.
